Dedicate some time to training and supporting young people who are interested in our industry.
Any business should invest some time in young people, and there’s much more reason to do so than just our sense of social responsibility (although that’s a fine reason).
Whilst it’s true that young people lack skill and experience, they can more than make up for these things with energy, enthusiasm, and unabashed creativity. Given the right atmosphere and support, young people will more than return on the investment that businesses make in them, but only for those businesses that are willing to take the perceived risk.
Working, spending time, and interacting as equals with young people improves your ability to be creative and think differently, which is worth quite a bit to any business (even – especially? – the really dull ones).
We should investigate the opportunities to contribute to youth events, and youth education within our field.
